Explore 165 hectares of land along the eastern shores of stunning Lake Tekapo, where you’ll discover picnic spots, an enclosed dog park, and 24 kilometres of cycling and walking tracks.

Lake Tekapo/Takapō Regional Park, one of ECAN’s newest parks, is continuously evolving under the collaborative efforts of our rangers and the local incorporated society. Together, they are dedicated to developing and managing the park’s facilities for your enjoyment.

An annual pilgrimage by Environment Canterbury Park Rangers to Lake Tekapo Regional Park is undertaken to contribute to various tasks such as track building, planting, fencing, and tree clearing.

As of the progress update on October 5, 2023, for the Takapō Regional Park harvest and replanting project, several milestones have been achieved:

  • The harvest and chipping of Stage 1 are now complete.
  • The rabbit-proof fence at the eastern perimeter of the park has been repaired, curbing the movement of rabbits between the park and neighboring properties.
  • Ongoing efforts involve the removal of logs from the area and the application of mulch.
  • Plans are in place to reinstate walking and mountain bike tracks by the end of October 2023.
